Local searches are user queries on search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo seeking information or business located in a specific region. For example ‘florists in London’, ‘painters in Manhattan’, etc. Local searches are for finding stores or businesses of the kind of restaurants, taxis, medical services, etc.

As more and more people do these kinds of search queries, search engines are spending more resources in improving their search algorithms.

It is estimated that between 30 and 40% of searches are of local nature. On the other hand, search engines are showing more and more local results. If we put this trend in perspective, there is a great opportunity to get clients for all those businesses whose activity is local.

Unlike generic searches, you may be looking for supplementary information for a purchase, people doing local search are much more in that purchase mood. In most cases, local searches have in fact already a purchase decision and the question is ‘through who?’.

How to make the local search?

The local search industry is very fragmented, because there are plenty of relevant sites that provide information. People seeking local information have a very wide spectrum of options which makes optimizing complex and confusing.

Request your inclusion in Google, Yahoo, Bing and MSN. All have options to include your business in their local results for free. The registration process is easy and can even be added without having a website. Once inclusion is created and verified, it will appear in the local search.

Not all people use the main search engines for local searches. Many of them resort to local search engines specialized in cities and local searches, such as 118.com. These search engines and directories are a very significant local traffic, and offer free inclusions in their directories.

Get linked by other websites.

This rule applies to all websites and queries in the network. Search for blogs and publications related to your city and introduce your business and kindly request a link to your website.

There are also a number of internet entrepreneurs that claim to have a formula to push you towards the top of search engines. There are numerous products out there that automate the process of natural ranking for both generic and local searches.

What Is An affiliate?

An affiliate is a person that promotes someone else’s products on their own website or email newsletters in exchange for a Commission for purchases that were made through your referrals (the visitors you send to the vendor’s website).

The Affiliate does not sell the products or services as a distributor or vendor. It simply earns money promoting by putting some sort of advertisement on their website or blog, evaluations of the product, banners, etc. These advertising links to the vendor’s website is all you need to start generating income online. You don’t have to pick up your order, charge it, dispatch the product or provide post-sale assistance.

How does affiliate program work?

Affiliates (people interested in promoting vendor’s products) can register free of charge in various affiliate products directories such as Click Bank.

Once registered user are provided with the advertising material: written, banners, ads, etc. of products then all you have to do is copying and pasting the given code into your own website to do the promotion.

All these advertising materials have a link that leads to the vendor’s website. This link also includes the code of the member who has placed the advertisement or banner. For example: www.somewebsiteaddress.com/productX.php?idaffiliate=123.

When someone clicks on the link or the banner advertising as the affiliate on the Web site, it comes to the vendor site and is recorded by means of a cookie as recommended in the affiliate X (in this case the affiliate 123).

A cookie is a file that is stored in the computer of the visitor and includes information specific to a particular web site. When we visited a web site, your browser looks if there are any saved cookies on the client’s computer that corresponds to this site and if it exists, passes the information contained in the website. Cookies are typically used to save preferences or peculiarities of the user as the language they prefer, etc.

Therefore, if a visitor landed on a vendor’s website a cookie with the affiliate id will be saved. Any future visits to the vendor’s website will firstly check for a local cookie and check if an affiliate id is stored or saved. If the potential buyer ends up buying the product then the corresponded affiliate will earn the commission. This is how the affiliate earns money.

Easy Cash By Numbers – Does It Work?

There is now a new kind of program on how to make money working online that you may have noticed over the last year or so. Such programs typically include some form of step-by-step instructions for newbies and for those who want to go back to basics using a program that is simple to follow, has great backup and gets speedy results. IMHO, Easy Cash By Numbers could be ranked one of the better of these programs.

I’ve tried quite a few programs like this and they all appear to have something missing. They will just skim over the critical elements, like how to get the best keywords and what to look for, and also the importance of using the primary keyword in the domain name and decent SEO tactics. You will find you really do have to work things out for yourself or try and get hold of the Help Desk staff. That has been a nightmare for me with at least two of these programs that I’ve looked purchased. Being ignored for days on end does not only cause me to get mad, it can make me ask for my money back! Thankfully, although Clickbank has tightened up on how authors present their sales page, they do make it fairly easy to secure a refund if you do not think you’re getting value for money. So, authors be warned!

Anyhow, the first thing I noticed about Easy Cash By Numbers was that the ‘Buy Now’ link didn’t even appear until the presentation ended. It turned out the author (Tony Marriott); thought people should get all the information before they were asked to buy or knew the cost so that they knew what they were getting. This strategy greatly cuts down on the need for any refunds. I’d never seen this previously, but it seemed very genuine to me as has my subsequent dealings with Tony seemed honest. Help Desk communications have remained quick and helpful for this product and others created by the same author.

Before I go further singing this man’s praises, yes, I have used Easy Cash By Numbers as well as other of his products. I’m not about to retire yet, but the training course has resulted in a nice extra income that is developing as my portfolio expands.

When I decided to write this, I looked for gaps in the program and found the author to be filling those gaps himself and offering free access to these to existing subscribers while charging others for some of the services. As an example, back links are among the most important things to get right for search engines and to increase traffic and therefore revenue to your site. Tony now has his own back link network service which seems to be working very well and for which you get lifetime free access with this program. Although he does spell out his keyword system for you in Easy Cash By Numbers, there is also a nifty little program I’ve been using that quickly tells you whether your keyword is worth bothering with (at the moment you get this free as well)! It has been quite interesting feeding my existing blog names through this and looking at the correlation with traffic to those sites (sorry, but I’m a stats nerd).

Now, Easy Cash By Numbers is so called to parody “painting by numbers”. I.e. do that first this way, and then get something else done this way. If you already understand how to install WordPress (for instance), it is simple to bypass that bit and move on to the other videos. Each video is backed up by a downloadable pdf and all the links you may need. While the program includes some good ways to help get your visitors to flow, it doesn’t promote unhealthy SEO strategies that can get you banned. It does not have a tool to go out and steal other peoples content to use for your own site, instead it advocates doing things yourself. If you can’t write your own content for whatever reason, it gives you links to where you can invest in original content at a reasonable price. There are also some quite “crafty” ways to further promote your sites so you can just put them up and leave them to work automatically.

Why Do So Many Web Masters Fail At Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing appears to be an simple option to people who want to make an income from the Internet. After all, there is no need to pay for or even to control stock and in some cases there is not even a need to have a web site. The job of the affiliate is to encourage people to click through to the suppliers’ sales pages. It sounds so easy.

More and more people are giving it a whirl every day. However, most of those will end up being disappointed. The fact is that affiliate marketing is definitely not as easy as it seems and some firms use subtle techniques and provisos to make certain that most web masters do not get paid out.

Almost certainly not many. It is true that the search engines will find you eventually, but how long are you willing to wait and where will you be in the search engine rankings? Page one or page six?

If you are not on page one of Google for your keywords, then you will not earn much money. Sorry, that is a fact. So, the next thing to do is attract visitors – loads of them, because not all visitors click ads. You can estimate your click-through-rate (CTR), but let’s assume that it is around 2.5%, let’s say 5%, but that is rather high. How much do you earn per click or per sale?

Let’s say that you earn $1 a click or sale. You will require at least 1,000 visitors a day to earn $25-$50. OK, that might sound okay to you, but it is not actually, considering all the marketing you will have to do in order to get 1,000 visitors. And what of your overheads?

The real killer for me is that the big companies like Clickbank and Commission Junction put restrictions on paying you out too. Clickbank will charge you for not making enough money, so that even if you do sell something, they will claw money back if you do not meet their sales targets.

The message of this piece? Do not think that affiliate marketing is going to replace your day job unless you have a heavy stream of visitors.
